Common Queries

You Ask - I Answer

I’ve compiled a list of the most frequent questions that I have received over my career. It’s normal and encouraged for patients to ask many questions when choosing to work with a Spiritual or Grief Counselor. Here are some answers to the questions I receive the most. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch.

What is the Grief Recovery Method?

It is an evidence-based, action-based program, so it's proven effective. The Grief Recovery Institute® is the foremost authority on the topic of grief. The Grief Recovery Method helps grievers deal with those things they wish might have been different or better. It allows them to address their dreams and hopes for the future, which is not what they had planned. It helps them address the words left unspoken. It helps them with the lost relationship that they thought would cause them pain for the rest of their lives. All these things may sound too good to be true, but research shows that this dream of a better tomorrow is possible, thanks to the Grief Recovery Method Action Plan!

What should I expect?

It comprises a once-a-week face-to-face (online) meeting that gives you the tools and support to work through and release the pain of a major life loss. It is a structured program in a safe environment that can last seven to twelve weeks. You’ll also be expected to complete weekly readings and homework assignments, which I will support and guide you through.

What type of programs do you offer?

We offer Spiritual and Grief coaching programs tailored to you individual need. In the initial call, we cover your needs and expectations and create a custom plan with actions and specific goals.

How many sessions will I need?

The Grief Recovery Method is for 7-8 sessions. Each session builds on the previous to resolve unresolved issues that complicate the normal grieving process.

Is this therapy?

The Grief Recovery Method® is a series of steps specifically designed to help you recover from major losses within a set time frame. Unlike traditional therapy, The Grief Recovery Method® comes with a pre-established framework, a distinct focus on grief, and a limited number of meetings.

What is Grief Counseling?

Many people believe that grief counseling is meant for individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one. However, humans grieve in many areas of their lives. It’s essential to address these transitions and situations adequately to make the life changes and transition easier to manage.

Grief counseling is a therapeutic process that helps you identify the issues, situations, or events that have brought about grief and helps you plan to move forward.

What are the signs of unresolved grief?

While it may be evident to some that they are grieving over the loss of a loved one, it might be less obvious to people who are experiencing grief related to other areas of their lives. There are many signs and symptoms related to grief, and many of these symptoms physically manifest themselves.

Because people work hard to dull their thoughts and emotions during tumultuous times, physical symptoms can often help trigger the identification of grief for people.

These symptoms often include:

  • Extreme tiredness and exhaustion

  • Feelings of restlessness and the inability to sit still

  • Body aches and pains, including headache, leg pain, chest pain, back pain

  • Increased or new anxiety

  • Trouble breathing, especially when triggers are present

  • Appetite loss or the constant urge to soothe with food.

  • Afraid to sleep or decrease in sleeping patterns

  • Feeling unmotivated or lack of caring about everyday things and routines

What is Bereavement Counseling?

Bereavement counseling is a therapeutic process to help you after you lose a loved one. Losing a family member can cause emotional and psychological stress, which can be hard to overcome without the proper tools and resources.

You may experience various stages of emotions after losing your family member, friend, or pet, and our coaches can help you as you work through those stages of loss.

We understand there is no one way to cope with this type of loss. We’ll work with you to create the right plan for you, allowing you to begin the healing process on your own terms.
